What is Nestum?
Nestum is a multi grain cereal that I grew up eating. It is a very popular breakfast for many families across Asia. It is tasty and very easy to prepare as well. All you have to do is pour hot water and voila, breakfast is ready. This is pretty much the Asian equivalent of Quaker Oats. Nestum is manufactured by Nestle, it comes in a flake form and is made with whole wheat, multigrain, rice, malt, and fortified vitamins and mineral. You can incorporated Nestum in so many recipes! As an example you can check out my Pan-Fry Butter Shrimp.
Substitute
Nestum: It’s a little harder to find the Nestum original cereal here in the United States but you can try to go to your local asian store, they might have it there. I use Kellogg’s Corn Flakes cereal when I can’t find the original Nestum, it tastes just as good. I’ve also seen Nestum baby cereal in Target, Walmart and Safeway, but I haven’t had the chance to try it yet.
Tips
If using cornflake, make sure to pulse it in a food processor to get fine crumbs.

kcalButtery cookies with a crunch from the cereal and some sweetness from the raisins.
Ingredients
2 cups all purpose flour
2 cups Nestum cereal
1/2 cup of sugar
16 tbsp butter, room temperature
2 eggs + 1 egg white
1 cup of raisins
2 tbsp condensed milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp baking powder
Directions
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- In a stand mixer, cream butter and sugar at medium speed for 1 – 2 minutes, or until butter mixture is pale yellow, light and fluffy. Scrape the sides of the bowl as needed.
- Add sugar, eggs, condensed milk, and vanilla extract into the butter mixture. The butter may separate and that is okay. Once everything is mixed completely, slowly incorporated flour and baking powder into the mixture.
- Add Nestum and raisins into the mixture. Mix with spatula until well combined.
- Using small cookie scoop, scoop the dough and place it onto your baking sheet. I like to press the cookie dough down with fork to get flatter looking cookies.
- Bake for 15 – 20 minutes.
- Remove from the oven and let it cool in a cooling rack for 15 – 20 minutes and it’s ready to serve!
