Hello! My name is Catherine Ricardo. I was born and raised on a small island in Indonesia called Batam Island. I moved to the USA in 2013 and currently call Baltimore, Maryland home.
Growing up, I was blessed to experience different delicious Indonesian food cooked by my mom & my fourth aunt. I was never the cook, my mom never let me into the kitchen. I can say that I was a handful. I remember vividly when I was about 6 or 7 years old, my mom had just finished cooking and I walked into the kitchen. I saw a glowing red stovetop and I was amazed by it, so amazed that I placed my hand right on top. Needless to say, from that day on, my mom banned me from her kitchen.
Fast forward, I moved to America for college. In college, I worked in the school kitchens and was introduced to the basics of cooking. At home, I furthered my personal skills. Living so far away from home, made me miss all the delicious food that I had growing up. I started to ask my mom & my fourth aunt for their recipes and started experimenting with different spices.
With this blog, I’m hoping that I could share with you my family recipes and recipes that I interpret from others.
