What is Tahu Isi?
Tahu goreng is the general name for any type of fried tofu dish in Indonesia which literally means ‘fried tofu’. For today’s recipe, I’m making Tahu Isi, which means filled tofu. You can make Tahu Isi with any filling you prefer, but the traditional Tahu Isi that you can find in the street market is filled with cabbage, carrots, bean sprouts and green onions. Sometimes you can also find vendors who add shrimp or vermicelli to their tofu.
Substitution
Rice flour: You can find rice flour in your local asian store but if you can’t find it, you can substitute with cornstarch.
Tips
- You can make your own tofu puff but it is much easier to buy it from the asian store!
