It is very popular in Chinese-Indonesian culture and this food is traditionally eaten during the Lunar New Year. This jerky is very different from American jerky. Bak kwa is grilled over charcoal while the jerky that you can most often find in American grocery stores is dehydrated. This is my favorite snack from home. Just a note I will not be grilling with charcoal for this recipe.
